Study in Prague organized an event for Ukrainian students

On Friday 23rd February 2024, on the eve of the second anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, Prague public universities associated in the Study in Prague consortium (AMU – Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, ČZU – Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, ČVUT – Czech Technical University in Prague, UK – Charles University, VŠCHT – University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, VŠE – Prague University of Economics and Business, UMPRUM – Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague) organized an event for their Ukrainian students. The event took place in the Didaktikon Educational and Creative Centre at Campus Hybernská.

The event was inspired by activities that AMU regularly organizes for its Ukrainian students during the festive season.

The purpose of the event was to bring together Ukrainian students who are studying at universities associated in the Study in Prague consortium and to express support and solidarity with all those affected by this war. We hoped to create an informal environment for students to make new contacts.

The atmosphere of the evening was friendly and relaxed, but sometimes got emotional. And no wonder.

The programme reflected (not only) AMU and UMPRUM students´ personal experience of the war in Ukraine and it included the following performances and videos: the theatre performance Normal Life by DAMU students, commented videoprojections Dača and Selfportrait by Iryna Babanina, an UMPRUM student, three opera arias interpreted by Olena Khalina, a HAMU student and a selection of Ukrainian songs in different genres sung by Anastasiia Babiiuk, a HAMU student. They were followed by screenings of Where are you from? by Anna Ivakhno and Ghost of Wheat by Olha Serhiivna Lysa, Viktoriia Naumuk, Valeriia Nesteruk and Liubov Plavska.

The evening ended with a screening of three films, namely Childhood, Youth, Adulthood by a group of students of the FAMU short-term mobility programme; Mama by Maria Felenko and 8 and 1 Year of War by Daria Kovalchuk.
